I have been teaching dance for 2 decades. I love it! Any age, any style, I have you covered. I’ve been lucky enough to catch the bug early and I want you to catch it too! I have so much passion for dance that in my first year of teaching (1997) I was in Arthur Murray’s “Top Ten Teachers for Beginners in the World” list!
Here’s a bit of my story…
At the age of 2 my parents didn’t know whether to be horrified or delighted that I was always dancing on top of tables the minute any music started playing. By the age of 5 they enrolled me in Checchetti Ballet classes.
I won a scholarship in the first year and went on to complete 7 more years of ballet & jazz until my teenage social life kicked in. I had no time for learning to dance – I was too busy dancing at parties!
When I was 20, my sisters started Ballroom dancing classes and dragged me along. I LOVED it instantly. I went to every possible Ballroom and Latin social dancing event in Melbourne. I was addicted.
I soon discovered Street Latin dancing (Salsa & Merengue) and that excited me even more!! Salsa clubs were opening up all over Melbourne, I was in my element.
I quit my job as a Nurse to become a full time dance teacher for Arthur Murray Dance Studios in Brighton, Vic. What a wonderful way to spend your working days – teaching people to dance.
Within 3 months, I was awarded ‘Top Ten Teacher in the World’ for beginner students. The following year I went on to be awarded ‘Top Teacher in Australia’ for advanced students.
Since leaving Arthur Murray I have been a free-lance Dance Instructor all over Melbourne and Queensland – as far North as Cape Tribulation and Dunk Island.
I have taken time away from teaching only to travel and be a mother to my 2 children.
I look forward to bringing you the joy and happiness (not to mention the fitness) that comes with learning social dance!
